I'm now 3 weeks and 2 days post op.
I started on soft foods 2 days ago - I feel like time is going by really fast.
I read online about other people's accounts of their post op food stages and some people's stages last a lot longer than mine.
I assume that is because they got the bypass, not the sleeve and also because different surgeons prescribe different diets to their patients.
This is my food stage schedule:
Bariatric free fluids = for one week (Wk 1)
Puree foods = for 2 weeks (Wk 2 & 3)
Soft foods = for one week (Wk 4)
Normal foods = from week 5 on wards.
I've coped well with each progressive food stage.
Some people have trouble tolerating fluids and food post surgery.
Thank goodness my mum came with me to my last surgeons appointment pre surgery as she convinced my surgeon that the gastric sleeve would be better for me then the gastric bypass.
Because my ovaries don't function I take the pill every day as a form of HRT.
It's a bit like early menopause except that I never started having periods in the first place.
The bypass can affect the way that the pill is absorbed in the body and I take the pill daily to protect my bones from osteoporosis amongst other things.
If I had gotten the bypass I probably would have had to change the delivery of my HRT which is no big deal in itself but the pill currently suits me quite well and not every form or delivery of HRT is always suitable.
The surgeon seemed to think that the absorption of my anti depressants would not be affected either by the sleeve or bypass because they typically get absorbed lower down in the intestines then the bypass manipulates, but for some reason the absorption of the pill is affected.
I'm planning to reduce the dose of my anti depressants in about 4 weeks from 60mg to 30mg.
I've been on them for 10 years and apart from the occasional breakthrough symptoms of a few weeks of anxiety/sadness once a year I seem to be pretty stable on them.
I don't want to stop taking them all together, but I would like to see how I go on a lower dose.
I'm doing this under the supervision of my local GP and time will tell how I go on the lower dose.
This is my typical diet at this stage:
Breakfast - 1 weetbix, half sliced banana, A2 milk.
Lunch - 1 ladle full of soup, (pumpkin, vegetable, chicken), OR 95gm tin salmon), OR one third cup of beef and steamed veggies.
Dinner - A small serving of whatever is cooked for dinner. Usually includes meat, veggies, soup, etc:
